The University of Missouri-School of Medicine, Department of Neurology is seeking a thought leader that will enhance our scope of neuroscience research to further support and build upon our strengths to tackle some of the most challenging health care issues in Missouri and beyond. The ideal candidate will be an innovative physician scientist focused on Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), with a focus on its pathophysiology, biomarker development, and treatment strategies. Non-physician scientists will be considered with successful translational research program.

 

Facilities & Resources
Collaborative opportunities abound at the University of Missouri. We are one of only six public universities nationwide that can claim schools or colleges of medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, engineering, arts and science, law, and research reactorall on the same campus. The NextGen Precision Health Institute (NGPHI) was developed to accelerate discoveries into clinical care. A major focus of the NGPHI is on neuroscience and particularly neurodegenerative and degenerative diseases. Scientists from the Columbia campus and the statewide University of Missouri system are involved in NGPHI. There is great potential to collaborate with individuals across campus and across the state.


The University of Missouri boasts state-of-the-art research facilities including the Roy Blunt NextGen Precision Health building, providing the resources needed to integrate multidisciplinary laboratory space with advanced analytical instrumentation, and computational processing. NextGen Precision Health building features a Clinical Translational Science Unit (CTSU) for physiological and cognitive testing of human study participants, a 7T MRI scanner, in-building access to PET/CT, Cryo-EM, and high-resolution microscopyall within walking distance from MU Health hospital system to better facilitate clinical collaboration. 


The individual who holds the Anna and Larry Gross Lewy Body Awareness chair will take advantage of the resources of the NGPHI, the Roy Blunt NextGen Precision Health building, the department of neurology, the School of Medicine, the MU Healthcare system, and the broader campus and university system.

 

Educational Opportunities
The University of Missouri has PhD training programs housed in the School of Medicine and a broader campuswide neuroscience PhD program. The Department of Neurology plays a vital role in educating medical students and post-graduate trainees at the University of Missouri. The individual in this position will be a member of the department and will be expected to actively contribute to the education and training of undergraduate and medical students, as well as participate in departmental and university service, including committee activities.

 

The Department of Neurology has a strong, long-standing ACGME-accredited neurology residency program as well as five ACGME-accredited fellowships in clinical neurophysiology, neurocritical care, neuro endovascular intervention, sleep medicine, and vascular neurology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD, DO, MD/PhD, PhD or equivalent degree in neurology, movement disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, or related disciplines

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • A track record of research productivity and accomplishments. 
  • Demonstrated potential to establish or maintain an internationally recognized, externally funded research program.
  • Robust publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • A research focus on Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), with an interest in biomarkers and/or pathophysiology of LBD or related neurodegenerative disorders
